Well, we had the appt. with this guy -->>>
Dr. Whisenant said he doesn't like doing toxic chemo on someone if he can't tell if it's working or not.
He suggested:
1. Consider HIPEC;
2. Continue watch & wait until something shows on CEA & PET (last year it eventually did) & then treat w/ chemo; or,
3. Do nothing.
Dr. Whisenant thinks Blake would be a good candidate for HIPEC. It's a pretty brutal surgery & has been named "the Mother of all Surgery's." He also thinks it's a good prognostic factor that it's been 1 year since his recurrence (carcinamatosis) & considering what he's endured, is still doing well. Apparently, HIPEC is still pretty controversial but they've had great results extending lives in those who had NO options left. He confirmed that the surgeon didn't see a large tumor burden & that it would be a good idea to proceed sooner then later for obvious reasons.
Blake was open to the idea! Yea! When I brought it up 2 days earlier, he wasn't! lol....stubborn man! He's just worried about trading good time for bad and very uneasy about not being home.
So, if it's determined that he's a good candidate, we'll probably be going to San Diego to meet Dr. Lowy, the Surgical Oncologist.
One-day-at-a-time, right? Thanks everyone….
Love, Kathy
