We heard back from Dr. Whisenant on Friday. Blakes CEA dropped (again) to 1.6! Yea! Right? But, it's really frustrating that it dropped when we know it should not have. Dr. Whisenant said we should just watch the trend. If it goes up - say, for 2 months in a row or so - then we worry.
Dr. Whisenant also heard back regarding HIPEC. (Click here for more info). The surgeon (Dr. Lowy) agreed Blake would be a good candidate for the procedure. He also feels we should act on it sooner then later before Blakes tumor burden increases and that it's not necessary to do chemo prior to surgery but do adjunctive (after surgery) chemo.
Looks like we'll be traveling to San Diego soon to meet with the Surgeon for more information and evaluation.
This procedure is not certain by any means. Blake could decide against it - remember... it's considered the Mother of all Surgeries! And, our insurance may deny the procedure....
Thanks for caring.
Love, Kathy
