San Diego by way of South Bend

We just got back from a quick excursion across several states! Last Friday (11/12) we flew into Detroit and drove to St. Joseph, Michigan which is on the east shore of lake michigan.

Saturday, we drove down to South Bend to watch the Utah play Notre Dame. I'll skip the game part because we all know how that turned out!! The campus of Notre Dame was absolutely amazing! Being able to go there and experience all the history and tradition was a once in a lifetime experience.

Sunday, we drove up the shoreline of lake michigan to South Haven. It was really windy and super cold but the scenary was awesome!

Monday, we (secretly) flew into San Diego. We were lucky enough to stay at a family favorite; Paradise Point. We relaxed by the swimming pool and rested up a bit.

Tuesday, we went to an appt with Dr. Lowy at UC San Diego/Morse Cancer Center. Long story short, Dr. Lowy feels Blake is a very good candidate of HIPEC (aka Mother of all Surgeries!) Tuesday afternoon, after a delayed and then cancelled flight we finally made it home. Wow, I guess it makes sense to say.... we're tired!

During Blakes appt, we were able to ask Dr. Lowy all the questions we had and he helped us understand what to expect. Dr. Lowy is a very pleasant man and we both got a good "vibe" from him. Not everyone is a candidate for this surgery. In fact, before the appt, I had talked to 2 people who had been denied the surgery by Dr. Lowy. Knowing he has such a specific selection criteria makes us feel good. At least we know he won't do this surgery unless he feels it will benefit Blake. Of course, there is never any guarantees in this damn cancer world. Should Blake choose to move forward with the surgery, the final appeal to the insurance company will be made. The deadline for that is the 1st week of December.

We've learned that many people have very strong opinions on this subject. What matters most, though, is what Blake wants. So, please pray, send good vibes or throw good wishes our way, he'll need them to help him with his decision.

Thanks always for your support. With love, Kathy
